SAVANNAH, Ga. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design baseball team earned their first win of the season as the Bees defeated Flagler College 6-3 Wednesday (Feb. 3) afternoon in the home opener at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Bees, who registered their fourth consecutive win against the NCAA Division II Saints, improved to 1-3 while Flagler dropped to 0-1. SCAD returns to action Friday (Feb. 5) when they host Voorhees College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Grayson Stadium.

SCAD took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as pinch hitter Will Cioffi singled up the middle off Flagler starter Gary Lohmann (0-1) to score Chris Emrey, who had reached on an infield single.

The Bees broke open the game with three more runs in the fifth to hold a 4-0 lead. Patrick Braswell had a RBI single through the left side while Kyle DeYoung stroked a double down the right field line for another run. Cioffi, who was one of four batters hit by a pitch, also scored on a Lohmann wild pitch.

SCAD added a run in the seventh as Braswell, who doubled to left, scored on a throwing error by Flagler reliever Zach Gray. However, the Saints rallied with a three-run eighth inning as they bunched together five hits to cut the deficit to 5-3. Cale Owen knocked in two runs on a single to center while John Sgromolo contributed a RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

The Bees pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single to right by Emrey.

Michael Imbriale (1-0) scattered 10 hits and struck out six in 7 2/3 innings of work to earn the win, while Mick Waterhouse notched his first save of the season as he recorded the final four outs.
