SAVANNAH, Ga. -
Patrick Braswell's three-run homer in the fifth inning of the nightcap propelled the Savannah College of Art and Design baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Shorter College on a windy Saturday (Feb. 6) afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Bees won the opener 3-2 before rallying for a 4-3 decision in game two.

The Bees won their third consecutive game and leveled their mark at 3-3 while the Hawks fell to 0-3. SCAD returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 9) with a 4 p.m. contest against Brewton-Parker College at Grayson Stadium.

In the nightcap, Shorter scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead. Matt Johnson had an RBI single in the first while Shannon Houston led off the fourth with a homer to left. The Hawks scored their final run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Kurtis Robinson before the Bees rallied in their half of the inning.

Mike Hines started the winning rally with a one-out infield single to third off Shorter starter Brick Carter. Will Cioffi followed with a walk before Braswell sent a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for his first homer of the season to give SCAD a 4-3 lead.

Nick Iuni (1-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief to earn the win for the Bees.

Shorter took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener a run-scoring single by Robinson. SCAD put together three hits and took advantage of two throwing errors by the Hawks to score three unearned runs in the fifth. The Hawks got a run back in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Houston, but Shorter, which left 12 runners on base, couldn't get any closer.

Stephen Shackleford (1-1) scattered seven hits in six innings to pick up the win while Mick Waterhouse earned his second save of 2010. Tim Day absorbed the loss for Shorter.
