Win streak at a dozen with two wins at Smash Hit

SAVANNAH, Ga. –
Kristen Curette drove in nine runs as the Savannah College of Art and Design softball team pushed their win streak to an even dozen Sunday (March 7) afternoon with two wins at the 2010 Boombah Smash Hit Tournament at the Paulson Softball Complex.

Curette drove in five runs as the 23rd-ranked Bees dispensed off Ohio Valley University 8-2 in the opener before driving in four more as SCAD defeated Franklin College 10-2 in five innings.

SCAD improved to 17-5 and will return to action at the Smash Hit Tournament Friday (March 12) with a noon doubleheader against King College.

The Bees spotted the Fighting Scots a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two unearned runs. SCAD took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Curette had an RBI double in front of Courtney Mienkina’s fourth homer – a two-run shot to right-center – of the season.

SCAD pushed its lead to 5-2 on Curette’s two-run single in the second. Curette drove in runs on sacrifice flies in the fourth and sixth innings. Jackie Rooney also added a RBI triple in the sixth.

Sam White earned the win to go to 9-3. Curette notched her third save of the season with three scoreless innings of work. Curette struck out eight of the 10 batters she faced.

Curette didn’t let up against Franklin. Curette had a RBI double and Jaime Voelkel drove in a run with a single in the first inning. Franklin tied the game at 2 as Stephanie Beasley homered to right.

SCAD broke open the game with a four-run second against the Grizzlies. Carleigh Shannon had a two-run single and Rooney added another RBI on a ground out before Curette launched her second homer of the season.

The Bees closed out the game early with two runs in each of the third and fifth innings. Shannon and Curette had sacrifice flies in the third while Curette and Voelkel had RBI singles in the fifth.

Kiara Boccia (6-1) earned the win for SCAD.
