Overwatch Drops 3-2 Decision in First Round of Activision Blizzard Collegiate Chapionships

4/26/2021 9:39:00 AM

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The SCAD eSports' Overwatch team competed in the Activision Blizzard Collegiate Overwatch Championships on April 10.

The Bees lost 3-2 against University of North Texas. With this loss, SCAD is officially eliminated from the Championships.

Despite the disappointing result, SCAD wraps up the 2021 season at 8-2, the best winning percentage and first playoff finals appearance in program history.

"Obviously, the team was a bit heartbroken by the loss during playoffs" states the Director of eSports, Ian Escalante. "But, we have so much to be proud of this season. To say the past year has been difficult would be an incredible understatement, but I am so incredibly proud of what the team was able to accomplish this year. Through roster changes, meta changes, and a unique practice set up, this team met challenge after challenge head on. And even with all of that, we still had the best showing in our program's history across any eSport, and a top 32 finish in the entire nation for the first time."

Escalante continued, "we are going to take this opportunity to rest up and improve in the offseason to build on this result. I cannot wait to see where this team goes next year, and I am so thankful to everyone that had a hand in supporting us for our playoff run."

The SCAD Overwatch team will enter their offseason effective immediately and begin improvements for next year's season. Any interested students should feel free to inquire about roster opportunities from the Director of Esports at iescalan@scad.edu
