DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The SCAD men's soccer team traveled to Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Tuesday evening, falling 1-0 in a tightly contested battle on the road.
RECORDS: The Bees move to 0-7-0 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 5-0-1.
DID YOU KNOW? SCAD held unranked Embry-Riddle, who defeated NCAA DII No. 1 Rollins College 2-1 earlier in the season, to only one goal and seven shots on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Both teams engaged in a defensive duel through a scoreless first half. SCAD created quality chances early in the opening period, putting two shots on target courtesy of
Ben Stephenson and
Sebastian Gomez, but the host keeper managed to keep the Bees off the scoreboard.
Goalkeeper
Max Keller anchored the defense with a save in the opening 45 minutes to send the match into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
Embry-Riddle intensified its attack in the second half, but Keller delivered an exceptional performance between the pipes to keep SCAD within striking distance. In the 74th minute, Keller turned aside an initial penalty kick attempt, but the host squad managed to convert on the follow-up sequence to claim a 1-0 lead. Keller came up big once again in the 87th minute by stopping a second penalty kick attempt, keeping the deficit at one goal, but the Bees were unable to notch an equalizer in the final minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: SCAD finished the evening with 11 shots, putting four on goal, while Embry-Riddle recorded 17 total shots with seven on target.
Sebastian Gomez led the SCAD attack with a team-high four shots, placing two on goal.
Wenzel Lindmoser recorded two shots with one on target, while
Nicolas Lozano added two shots.
Ben Stephenson put one shot on target, and
Simeon Dishman and
Lejs Plicanic registered one shot apiece.
Max Keller played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bees, making six saves—including two penalty shot saves.
