Eschenroeder Named Newcomer of the Year

On the night before The Sun Conference tournament, three SCAD volleyball players were honored for their efforts on the court. Leading the way was freshman Lauran Eschenroeder as she was named TSC Newcomer of the Year. Joining her on the all-conference team was junior Jen Drouin and senior Olympia Haney.
 
Eschenroeder, a middle blocker from Tarpon Springs, Fla., is leading the conference in hitting percentage at .390, which is also eight-highest in the country. She has had 12 match with a .400 hitting percentage or higher. Eschenroeder is also averaging 2.9 kills per set, fifth-best in the conference, and 0.9 blocks per set, sixth-best in the conference. This week she was named the conference Player of the Week.
 
Earning the first all-conference honor of her career was the outside hitter Drouin. The Richland, Mich. native ranks third in the league, 17th in the nation, at 0.6 aces per set. She is also amongst the conference leaders in hitting percentage (8th - .226) and digs per set (11th – 2.9).
 
This year's award is the third-straight for Haney as she completes her career. The league leader at 1.0 blocks per set, she is also 2nd with a .314 hitting percentage and 10th at 2.6 kills per set.

The Bees open the conference tournament Friday morning at 10 a.m. against Southeastern, whom they beat 3-0 on October 29. If it wins that match, SCAD will take on Webber International at 4 p.m. in the semifinals.
