SCAD Savannah defeated Southeastern in the first Sun Conference quarterfinal Friday morning, 3-1 (25-11, 19-25, 25-17, 25-1). SCAD came in the higher seeded team and was looking to put away a young Southeastern squad which featured many freshmen and sophomores and only one senior.
The first set was won by SCAD as they went on an impressive run early on and did not look back. “I think we did extremely well we are going to work on executing some plays for later on in the tournament,” SCAD head coach Melissa Batie said. The SCAD front line was very aggressive throughout the match and came through big for the Bees. “It's definitely something we have been working," Batie added. "We have been working on our blocking.”
Southeastern featured many young players in their lineup. “We were young” Southeastern's head coach said. "It's tough when you play against good athletes." SCAD won the first set with Southeastern battling back valiantly and actually winning the second set. But SCAD was dominant throughout and won the third and fourth sets to take the match and move on in the tournament.
SCAD plays again at 4:00 p.m. against the second seed Webber University.
