Miami Gardens, Fla. – Over the last month SCAD Volleyball has been playing some its best volleyball having won eight of its last nine matches. Unfortunately the Bees will not be able to continue that strong play as their season came to an end Saturday in the championships match of The Sun Conference tournament.
SCAD dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) decision to fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle at the Fernandez Family Gym on the campus of St. Thomas University. The Bees ended the year 19-8.
Leading SCAD offensively in her final collegiate game was senior
Olympia Haney as she recorded nine kills and five blocks. Freshman Lauran Eschenroeder added six kills and three blocks.
Sophomore setter
Pammy Craigle notched a double-double with 16 assists and 10 digs. Junior Chelsey Corgan notched 11 digs.
Both teams were fairly well matched statistically. The difference in the match was Embry Riddle's ability to pull away towards the end of each set. The first set was tied at 15-15 before the Eagles went on a 9-0 run as a part of a 10-2 finish to the opener.
Three-straight Embry Riddle errors allowed SCAD to claim an 18-17 advantage and the second set was tied at 19-19. Unfortunately, ERAU closed the second stanza on a 5-1 run. SCAD battled back to pull within 19-17 in the third and deciding set before a pair of services errors and two attack errors gave the Eagles the championship.
The future looks bright for the Bees, who's .704 winning percentage this year is the second-highest in school history behind fourth-year head coach Melissa Batie's 2009 squad. SCAD returns all but one player for 2012 and already has one player committed for next year.
